Steve Huff, camera reviews you can understand, use, and trust

After a very long hunt I finally found a blog with reviews about how cameras are to use rather than what’s stuffed inside them, and so I thought I’d share it with you.

And then we have Steve Huff, you could not want for a more different blogger, only two things link these two, a love of all things Leica and great pictures. With Steve I get the impression that he very much started out as a part-time photographer, who by hard work, and his blog, as been able to turn his passion into a full time occupation. And I for one couldn’t be happier, here is a very down to earth bloke who not only happily adds all the comments from his followers, but also interacts with them, just because he’s a Leica devote doesn’t mean he’s above us mere mortals, far from it. And then there are his reviews, as with Thorsten Overgaard he’ll give you the tech spec to keep the geeks happy, but it only forms a small part of his review, the vast majority is all about what the camera is like to use and how it makes you feel, with of course great pictures to demonstrate his points.

Every day he has a new article designed to inspire you, and again here is something unusual, most are from keen photographers from around the world. The effect is that by visiting one blog you get to see the work of 100’s, and yet all seem to share something, all the work is ‘in the same vain’, a lot of black and white pictures, and a lot of street photography. In between these are Steve’s reviews, which are on the gear ‘he’ likes and wants to use. So yes as I said there are lots of reviews on all things Leica, all easy to read and digest, but amongst them are reviews on other great cameras and lenses, kit he likes and uses. And this is my real reason for visiting, here is a person who has a very similar outlook, photography wise, to me, and who reviews the very best kit to do the job, regardless of who it’s made by. After spending an age trawling through endless reviews on the Fujifilm x100 I came across his, and it was a breath of fresh air. Here was someone who yes agreed with others that the x100 did indeed have faults; that the software was somewhat ‘odd’, but it didn’t stop him from really getting across what a joy it was to use regardless of those faults.

If you’re into street photography and feel like being inspired on a daily basis give his blog a go.
