Photography blog by Thorsten Overgaard

My review of one of my all time favorite photographic blogs, full of inspiring work and reviews

My review of one of my all time favorite photographic blogs, full of inspiring work and reviews

The first is Thorsten Overgaard from Denmark, I found this blog, a couple of years ago and was hooked from day one. Here we have a professional photographer and photo journalist who is really unusual in this day and age, he prefers to use a manual focus Leica M9 over the normal, and massive, SLR offerings from Nikon and Canon. Add to this his love for second hand Leica’s that he cleverly demonstrates can, and do, out perform new cameras costing 3 times the price and you have the recipe for an interesting blog.

Throughout his blog are simply amazing images from around the world, great a lot of sites have these, where he is different is that he always has a great deal to say about the story behind the picture, not just the F-stop used. And there are some fantastic lessons and guides, well written and informative, along with the some of the very best reviews on all things Leica you will ever find on the web today, but as I say not just new Leica’s. What drew me to his site in the first place was that I was desperate to find a new small high quality digital camera, but was having real problems with any and all reviews. The trouble is that no one updates their reviews, what I mean is that you may well be interested in say a used Leica Digilux 2, a great camera from about 7 or 8 years ago. So you have a hunt on the web for reviews, all you will find are reviews from the year it was made, great except you want to know how it compares today, how it has stood the test of time, and this is where Thorsten Overgaard comes in, he updates his reviews, revisits old kit to do just that, see how it fares today, perfect.

And then there are the pictures, Thorsten Overgaard takes the sort of pictures that I find myself drawn to, reportage work that play with light and inspire you. His work is reproduced around the world and it’s obvious from his blog that he is luckily enough to spend a great deal of his time traveling to interesting places, one minute he’s on the streets of New York, the next he has a whole page devoted to every day life in Hong Kong. Give his site a go, you wont be disappointed.
